Pawn Again

Religion is a very awkward subject. Personally I have the upmost respect for people’s religious beliefs and I mean ALL religions! ‘Peace’ and ‘good will’ would have to be the corner stones of any religion. However I believe there’s a problem with the application of religion. What do your average pearly teethed parishioners do upon leaving the church after the service? Play that violent video game in the afternoon? Illegally burn that DVD?  Think about that next illicit affair? Ignore that poor man in the street?

There’s not much use in practicing these sanitized Sunday routines unless the philosophy is practiced beyond the place of worship. Otherwise it’s like trying to justify two conflicting life styles in one person. To an observer like myself I see only extraordinary hypocrisy.

Ancient book that told the way,

Reminding all there will come a day.

Read aloud on the holy ground,

Speaking words while so profound.

Send the message, You're so convincing.

Preaching the way, even though you're sinning.

Splendor in that Sunday style,

'Peace be with you' with a plastic smile.

'Forgive us our sins' as I fake my sorrow,

If it works then repeat it tomorrow.

Send out the message, You're so convincing.

Preaching the way, even though you're sinning.

Logic doesn't come with faith.

So convenient a place.

Lead with the left hand, hurt with the right.

Hypocrisy is a frightening sight.

Do as I say, but not as I do.

The minds of the weak I'm appealing to.

Putting a face to my public image,

Shield me as I aim to pillage.

Saving the faithful from burning fires,

Follow the path, though you do conspire.

Send out the message, You're so convincing.

Preaching the way, even though you're sinning.

Do As I Say, But Not As I Do
